Fehlendes XML File für Offline-Plugin 6.0.1 für den Merchandising Server Missing XML file for Offline-Plugin 6.0.1 for Merchandising Server

Wer bereits den Merchandising Server einsetzt, wird vermutlich ebenfalls über folgendes Problem gestolpert sein.

Citrix bietet ein Update für das Offline-Plugin an, welches 45 Fehler behebt. Als normaler Download steht das Update 6.0.1 seit einiger Zeit zur Verfügung. Wer aber im Merchandising Server das aktuelle Plugin sucht, wird es nicht finden. Auch eine manuelle Aktualisierung findet das Update nicht 🙁

Der Grund liegt in einem fehlenden XML-File, welches der Merchandising Server verwendet, um die Installation und Konfiguration zu steuern. Es sieht leider nicht so aus, als ob Citrix das fehlende File irgendwann selbst bereitstellen würde, s. Citrix Blog: App Streaming-6.0.1 LCM Update

Ich habe mir daher die folgenden Ressourcen genauer angesehen:

– Citrix-TV
– Citrix eDocs
– Metadata Reference

und anschliessend mein eigenes XML File erstellt.

Um euch die Arbeit zu ersparen, stelle ich es hier zum download bereit: XenAppStreamingMetaData.xml

Im Merchandising Server lässt sich das aktuelle Offline-Plugin und das aktualisierte XML-File manuell hochladen und dann via Deliveries wie gewohnt verteilen 🙂

Warum Citrix dieses File nicht selbst zur Verfügung stellt, wird wohl ihr Geheimnis bleiben. Grundsätzlich stellt dieses Verhalten jedoch die Nützlichkeit des an sich guten Gedankens des Merchandising Server stark in Frage. Ich hoffe, Citrix wird seine Update Politik für Merchandising Server nochmal überdenken und ALLE Updates auch auf dieser Plattform verfügbar machen…

If you are already working with Merchandising Server, you will probably know this problem.

Citrix provides an update for his Offline –Plugin that eliminates 45 bugs. The update 6.0.1 is available as regular download since many weeks now but if you try to find the update on your Merchandising Server you won’t find it. Even a manual rescan of the available plugins doesn’t help 🙁

The reason is a missing XML file, which Merchandising Server needs to control the installation and configuration of the plugins. Apparently Citrix won’t make this XML file available to the public, see Citrix Blog: App Streaming-6.0.1 LCM Update

I have therefore taken the time to have a look at the following resources:

– Citrix-TV
– Citrix eDocs
– Metadata Reference

and finally created my own XML file.

To save your time, I will provide you with the XML file needed here: XenAppStreamingMetaData.xml

On the Merchandising Server it is now possible to upload the actual Offline-Plugin together with the new XML file. After that step you can deploy the update through standard deliveries as usual.

Why Citrix doesn’t provide this file itself is a miracle to me. In fact this behavior doesn’t help to convince people to use Merchandising Server. I hope Citrix is rethinking the way they provide updates to Merchandising Server in the future…

AAC und IE 8.0 AAC and IE 8.0

Vor wenigen Tagen wurde der IE 8.0 offiziell zum Download freigegeben. Da er demnächst auch als Windows Update verfügbar sein wird, werden schnell viele User mit diesem Browser auf bestehende AAC Deployments zugreifen wollen. Dies gestaltet sich in der Defaulteinstellung jedoch leider als problematisch. So sieht eine AAC Portalseite mit dem IE 8.0 aus:

Das Layout ist in der Höhe gestaucht, es fehlen daher viele Links und OWA ist praktisch nicht bedienbar 🙁

Eine kleine Anpassung der Datei C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\CitrixSessionInit\NUI.aspx läst die Darstellungsprobleme, indem es den IE 8.0 in den IE 7.0 Kompatibilitätsmodus zwingt.

Es genügt, im Header der Datei NUI.aspx folgende Zeile hinzuzufügen:

Some days ago, Microsoft officialy released IE 8.0. Since IE 8.0 will be available trough Windows Update soon, more and more users will hit existing AAC deployments with this browser. Unfortunately this is not working as expected. This is, how an AAC portal page looks like in IE 8.0 with default settings:

The layout is crushed, links are missing and OWA is nearly unusable 🙁

A small change in the file C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\CitrixSessionInit\NUI.aspx solves the display issue by forcing IE 8.0 into IE 7.0 compatibility mode.

It is sufficient to add the following line in the header of the NUI.aspx file:

Update – AAC Tuning, Teil 4Update – AAC tuning, part 4

Das Dokument wurde ein wenig erweitert, nachdem ein Kunde einen sehr dunklen Blauton für den farbigen Querbalken verwenden wollte. Die Beschriftung des Balkens war daraufhin nicht mehr lesbar. Daher musste die Schriftfarbe innerhalb des Balkens auf Weiss gesetzt werden, um wieder für den nötigen Kontrast zu sorgen. Wie das geht wurde nun dem Dokument hinzugefügt.

Das HowTo steht wieder, der besseren Lesbarkeit wegen, als PDF zum Download zur Verfügung. Es kann hier heruntergeladen werden: AAC4_5_CustomizeLogonPoint_Rev1.1_DE.pdf

I had to upgrade the document, because a customer wanted to set the color of the bar to a dark blue. The caption inside the bar could not be read anymore after this change, so we had to change the color of the caption to white. This way we got the contrast needed back. How to do that is added to the document now.

The howto is written in german. A translation into english is not available at the moment. Since the pdf utilizes a lot of pictures, you might be able to understand it anyway. Seit wenigen Tagen steht eine aktualisierte Version des Hotfixes AG2000_v457 bei Citrix zum Download bereit. Diese Aktualisierung beseitigt eine Sicherheitslücke in der Access Gateway Implementierung der 4.5er Reihe. Es stehen Fixes für CAG 4.5.5, 4.5.6 und 4.5.7 zur Verfügung.

Vor allem Nutzer der SSL VPN Komponente des Access Gateways sollten den Fix schnellstmöglich einspielen.

A few days ago, Citrix released the hot fix AG2000_v457 Rev. A. This release fixes a security issue found in all 4.5 releases of the Access Gateway. Fixes for Access Gateway 4.5.5, 4.5.6 and 4.5.7 are available for download.

Especially if you use the SSL VPN feature of the Access Gateway, it is recommended to install this fix as soon as possible.

AAC HotFix AAC450W003 und CAG HotFix 4.5.7 verfügbarAAC hotfix AAC450W003 and CAG hotfix 4.5.7 available

Seit wenigen Tagen stehen die Hotfixes AAC450W003 und Hotfix AG2000_v457 bei Citrix zum Download bereit. Neben einigen kleineren Bugfixes gibt es in diesen Releases weitere wirklich interessante Neuerungen:

Durch den AAC HotFix wird mein letzter Beitragt “AAC Tuning, Teil 3” teilweise entwertet. Genauer gesagt ist durch die Intervention, welche ich für einen Kunden durchgeführt habe, nun eine einfache Möglichkeit entstanden, den Beschreibungstext für das RADIUS-Eingabefeld nicht nur bei einem RSA, bzw. SafeWord Deployment einfach zu wechseln, sondern neu auch bei einer beliebigen RADIUS Implementation. Das Vorgehen aus dem ersten Abschnitt des Beitrags “AAC Tuning, Teil 3” behält daher seinen Gültigkeit, gilt aber nach der Installation des HotFixes AAC450W003 auch für alle RADIUS Lösungen.

Vista wird nun endlich, wenn auch nur im Beta Stadium, von AAC 4.5 unterstützt. Das heisst, es lassen sich nun auch Vista Clients via EPA-Scan überprüfen und klassifizieren. Erste Tests verliefen bereits positiv. ACHTUNG: Wenn EPA-Scans von EPAFactory/Accario eingesetzt werden, darf dieser Hotfix noch nicht eingespielt werden. Accario plant die Unterstützung von AAC 4.5 HF03 für voraussichtlich den 20. Mai.

Die Liste der unterstützten Virenscanner und Personal Firewalls wurde ergänzt. So sind nun endlich u. a. auch McAfee 8.5i, Symantec AVE 10.0, Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 und Trend Micro 8.0 offiziell von Citrix unterstützt.

A few days ago, Citrix released the hotfixes AAC450W003 and hotfix AG2000_v457. Beside a couple of bug fixes, there are some really interesting things in these releases:

Hotfix AAC450W003 invalidates some parts of my last posting in “AAC tuning, part 3”. A couple of months ago, i asked Citrix to allow customers to change the caption of the RADIUS input box on the logon page. In my last article i showed a way to change the caption easily for RSA and SafeWord deployments and pointed out a way to change the text with a little script in case of another RADIUS solution. However this solution had some unwanted side effects and so i’m glad that Citrix came up with a solution for all deployments. The procedure described in the first section of “AAC tuning, part 3” stays valid but is now applicable for all RADIUS deployments too, given you installed hotfix AAC450W003 correctly.

Vista is now supported with AAC 4.5, but it is still beta. This means, that you are now able to check Vista clients through EPA-scans, provided by Citrix. My first tests have been successfull. CAUTION: If you use EPA-scans from EPAFactory/Accario you have to wait for an update from Accario to support AAC 4.5 HF03. This should be available around the 20th of Mai.

The list of supported AV scanner and personal firewalls has become a little longer. McAfee 8.5i, Symantec AVE 10.0, Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 and Trend Micro 8.0 are now officially supported at last.

Update: PNAgent Filter für Web Interface 4.6 Update: PNAgent Filter for Web Interface 4.6

Ich bin kürzlich in die Situation gekommen, den PNAgent Filter für das Web Interface 4.6 einsetzen zu müssen. Dabei stellte sich heraus, dass der eigentliche Code der Erweiterung für das WI 4.5 ohne Anpassungen auch unter dem WI 4.6 weiter funktioniert. Damit die Einrichtung aber so leicht bleibt, wie gewohnt, stelle ich das Update für das Web Interface 4.6 als weiteren Download zur Verfügung. So genügt es weiterhin, eine Datei auszutausche. Eine manuelle Änderung im Code ist nicht notwendig.

Diese Modifikation des Web Interfaces ermäglicht es, Published Applications von der Anzeige im PNAgent auszuschliessen, indem der Description der Published Application ein “#” Zeichen vorangestellt wird. Nützlich, wenn der PNAgent z. B. zum Bestücken des Desktops und des Startmenüs verwendet wird, und man nicht möchte, dass der gepublishte Desktop dort, oder in den Eigenschaften des PNAgent Symbols in der Startleiste erscheint.

Not long ago, i had to implement the PNAgent Filter for Web Interface 4.6. It turned out, that the code itself of the modification didn’t need any changes from WI 4.5 to WI 4.6. To allow for an easy implementation, i nevertheless created an updated archive of the modification and updated the files for WI 4.6. Therefore all it needs is to replace one file, without the hassle to copy and paste code blocks to the right locations.

This modification gives an administrator the power to hide Published Applications from the user. The only thing he has to do is adding a “#” sign in front of the application description. Very handy, if you use PNAgent to populate the Desktop and Start Menu and do not want the published Desktop to appear in the context menu of the PNAgent in the taskbar.

Access Gateway HotFix 4.5.6Access Gateway hotfix 4.5.6

Ab sofort steht bei Citrix das Update 4.5.6 für das Access Gateway Standard zum Download zur Verfügung, welches wiederum einige unschöne Fehler ausbügelt. Bei älteren Versionen konnte es vorkommen, dass die Anzahl Sessions im “Real Time Monitor” und in der Statistik Anzeige nicht überein stimmten. Ausserdem sollte sich der SAC Client nun noch verlässlicher beenden, wenn sich ein User in einem AAC Deployment am Web Interface ausloggt.

Wenn das Access Gateway in einem AAC Deployment mit HotFix AAC450W001 betrieben wird, werden die User bei jedem Verbindungsaufbau gefragt, ob sie das ActiveX Control installieren wollen. Ursache ist folgender Abschnitt in der Datei “web.config”:

Die Versionsnummer muss bei der Version 4.5.6 auf den Wert 4,5,6,111 angepasst werden, damit die korrekte Versions- und Build-Nummer des SAC abgefragt wird.

Citrix released HotFix 4.5.6 of the Access Gateway Standard, which eliminates another couple of bugs. Before the update to version 4.5.6 the number of connections from the Secure Access Client and Citrix Presentation Server Clients could be different in the Real-Time Monitor or on the Statistics tab in the Administration Tool. Another fix adresses this issue: When users are logged on to the Advanced Access Control option through the Access Gateway, when users logoff, the session is not disconnected. Users must manually disconnect by right-clicking the Secure Access Client and selecting Disconnect.

If the Access Gateway appliance is upgraded to version 4.5.6, and Access Gateway Advanced Edition with hotfix AAC450W001 is installed on a server in the internal network, users are prompted to install the ActiveX control each time a connection is created. Currently, the file web.config has the following at the end of the file:

The version number needs to be changed to the correct version and build number for 4.5.6, which is 4,5,6,111.

Access Gateway HotFix 4.5.5 Rev. BAccess Gateway hotfix 4.5.5 Rev. B

Nach den Sommerferien und einigen sehr arbeitsreichen Wochen, geht es hier nun endlich wieder weiter 🙂

Ab sofort steht bei Citrix eine Revision des Access Gateway Updates 4.5.5 zum Download zur Verfügung, welches einige unschöne Fehler ausbügelt. Nach dem Update auf 4.5.5 konnte es vorkommen, das das CAG Standard alle 10 bis 20 Minuten einfrohr, bzw. mehrmals pro Tag crashte, was einen Reboot nach sich zog. “Ursache” war die Konfiguration von mehr als einer STA auf dem CAG Standard. Nach dem Update auf Rev. B sollte dieser Bug behoben sein.

Weitere Fixes beinhalten Verbesserungen beim SAClient Rollout und EPA Scan Download. Auch soll sich der VPN Client nach dem Ausloggen am AAC Server nun verlässlicher beenden.

After the summer holidays and several very busy weeks, i have found the time again to carry on with these pages 🙂

Citrix released Revision B of the Access Gateway HotFix 4.5.5 today, which eliminates a couple of bugs. After the update to version 4.5.5 some CAG Standard installations experienced a freeze every 10 to 20 minutes or even worse 2 to 3 crashes/reboots a day. The “reason” for this behavior was the configuration of more than one STA on the CAG Standard. After the update to Rev. B this bug should be eliminated.

Additional fixes for the SAC roll out and the EPA download are included. Furthermore the SAC should close now more reliably in AAC deployments. The full list of fixes and the download can be found here.

20. Juli: Seit Gestern steht bei Citrix nun auch das Update AAC450W001 für Access Gateway Advanced 4.5 zur Verfügung. Neben einer ganzen Reihe von Fehlerbehebungen sind auch einige neue Features und Konfigurationsoptionen dazu gekommen:

  • WANScaler Integration (Protokoll und TCP Optimierung über den SSL VPN Client)
  • Support für Web-enabled Mobile Devices

Da mit diesem Update auch einige Sicherheitprobleme entschärft worden sind, sollte mit dem Update nicht allzulange gewartet werden.

  • WANScaler integration (protocol and TCP optimizations through the SSL VPN client)
  • Support for Web-enabled Mobile Devices

Since a couple of security updates are comprised in this Package, administrators shouldn’t wait with installing this update.

18. Juli: Seit Heute steht bei Citrix das Update 4.5.5 für alle Access Gateway 2000/2010 Modelle zur Verfügung. Neben einer ganzen Reihe von Fehlerbehebungen sind auch einige neue Features und Konfigurationsoptionen dazu gekommen:

  • Caching von One Time Passwörtern kann nun explizit verboten werden
  • WANScaler Integration (Protokoll und TCP Optimierung über den SSL VPN Client)
  • Vista Client Support

Um nur die Wichtigsten zu nennen.

Da mit diesem Update auch einige Sicherheitprobleme entschärft worden sind, sollte mit dem Update nicht allzulange gewartet werden.
